Residential Framing Inspection
A kitchen wall coming out — whether it was load-bearing, and what had to replace it.

The Concern
The owners wanted a kitchen opened to the living room. A carpenter was ready to cut; nobody had confirmed whether the wall carried roof or floor load.

The Inspection
Bob traced the load path from roof through the wall, checked joist direction, stacked bearing, and what sat over the opening. Existing headers and bearing at the ends of the wall were reviewed.

The Finding
The wall was load-bearing. Removing it without a designed beam would have dumped roof and floor load into finishes that were never meant to carry it.

Recommendation
A beam was sized for the span and the reactions at each end. Bearing and a post down to a competent support were called out. The owners got a drawing the carpenter could build from — not a guess from a span card.
